To actively enjoy driving, it is important to communicate closely with the car. When the driver senses input from the road surface and steers, the car's movement is corrected. The driver then senses that movement and repeats the next steering... this closed loop must be completed swiftly and accurately. To achieve this, we have released a number of body reinforcement parts, but we have focused on rubber bushings that are installed in the moving parts of the suspension.
The rubber bushings used in mass-produced cars, even in sports cars, must be made softer to ensure comfort, and vibration absorption must be prioritized. This means that when driving on winding roads, there is a momentary delay in response to the driver's input. The ND Roadster, which is equipped with a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, has more than 30 bushings scattered throughout it. It is easy to imagine that making these bushes harder would have a major impact on handling.
The key is to get the hardness just right. If you replace it with a metal ball joint or hard urethane like those used in racing cars, the rigidity will be maximized, but in exchange, vibrations and operating noise due to aging will occur, making it unsuitable for street use. On the other hand, if it is too soft, the response will be dull.
Our suspension bushings maintain the mass-produced shape while increasing the rubber hardness by 110-140%. They ensure practicality while suppressing the deflection of moving parts, creating solid handling that is more than that of a sports car, but less than that of a racing car. The lineup is based on the upper mount, which enhances the movement during the damper's small stroke, and the lower arm side, which bears the load, and includes all the moving parts of the suspension up to the upper arm side.
