The basic design features a 4-2-1 layout aimed at increasing torque from low to medium speeds. The section where the four pipes merge into two is longer than in the mass-produced version, and the angle of the confluence is narrowed to prevent blowdown (exhaust backflow) that occurs at high RPMs. In addition, a radial shape is adopted at the connection point to the single main unit to increase exhaust flow velocity. As a result, improved torque (power) is achieved from low to medium speeds to peak performance. >>Learn more

A perfectly equal-length layout increases exhaust flow velocity and improves torque.

Let's review the function of an engine. Basically, it involves the process of converting the chemical energy contained in gasoline into thermal energy, and the mechanical extraction of that energy. Needless to say, the earlier process is crucial in terms of power performance. And this is governed by a series of airflows. Therefore, fluid dynamics are necessary when designing the air inlet and outlet. Now, to the main point, in that sense, the outlet is actually more difficult to design. The pressure and temperature are high, and naturally the flow velocity is also high. Therefore, there is inevitably resistance. On top of that, there is the difficulty of pulsation caused by the timing of the explosions. These challenges are particularly concentrated in the exhaust manifold, which is located directly after the engine. Therefore, effective tuning of the exhaust manifold is crucial.
Our basic design is a 4-2-1 (3-1 for the RX-8) layout aimed at increasing torque from low to medium speeds. Considering the rotational speed and overlap characteristics of each engine, we made the distance to the manifold longer and more equal in length than in mass production. Furthermore, we narrowed the angle of the confluence to prevent blowdown (exhaust backflow) that occurs at high RPMs. In addition, we increased the exhaust flow velocity by making the connection point to the main unit radial, achieving power characteristics that enhance the engine's potential. The functional beauty of stainless steel, utilizing craftsmanship such as fully machined flanges and back-shielded TIG welding, is also an attractive feature.
