Reinforces the end of the body to increase torsional rigidity.
Motion control beam with built-in friction damper.

In order to actively enjoy driving, the stronger the body, the better. This is because input from the road surface distorts the body and hinders the movement of the suspension.Of course, the bodies of mass-produced cars have evolved year by year, and are now rigid enough for normal driving. There is a lot of room for increasing rigidity in order to fully enjoy the sense of unity. That's why we have searched for the weak points of mass-produced bodies and have been building a lineup of products ranging from strut tower bars to full-fledged brace kits, aiming for the perfect rigid body.
To further deepen the design, we focused on reinforcing the front and rear ends to help with body twisting. Compared to the cabin in the center of the body, where a monocoque is formed, the cabin is basically constructed with two square-shaped closed-section side frames laid out vertically, similar to the ladder frames used in trucks. However, only reinforcement measures have been implemented. Moreover, there are parts of the car where the suspension is attached that are subject to a large load, so they are more likely to twist than the center of the body. If we can strengthen this area, we can create a stronger body.

We previously developed a product called frame end brace. Its structure is completely rigid by connecting the squares with high-rigidity steel oval pipes. By combining it with strut tower bars and floor cross bars, torsional rigidity has been significantly improved. However, as the body approaches a perfectly rigid body, slight vibrations from the road surface that cannot be absorbed by the suspension, tires, and rubber bushing become more easily transmitted. This tendency is especially noticeable in the latest Mazda cars, which have a more rigid body.
"Motion Control Beam (MCB)*1" was developed to solve this problem. In order to suppress slight vibrations while increasing rigidity to the limit, the conventional steel oval shaft was replaced with an ultra-high damping friction damper. The inside has a simple mechanical configuration consisting of disc springs and friction plates, as shown in ``MCB internal structure (conceptual diagram)''.

First, body rigidity is ensured by the tension of strong disc springs, which have a spring constant more than 100 times that of suspension springs. Then, the vibration is suppressed by the elastic force and frictional force of the friction plate from the stroke range at the moment when the body is about to vibrate. The stroke amount is only about 4um (=0.004mm) in a scene (0.5G) where a driver who enjoys driving is driving through a winding road at a high pace. Although these numbers are minute and cannot be detected by measuring instruments, people perceive the difference as a difference in ride quality. That is why we continue to focus on "sensitivity tuning" that does not appear in the specifications. We are currently expanding our lineup with new items that offer strength and flexibility. I want you to experience the effect for yourself.
