--------------------------

A product specifically designed for the RX-7 that has reduced the weight of the mass-produced flywheel by an appropriate amount and reduced the moment of inertia by approximately 42%. This makes it possible to improve engine response with minimal impact on operability. The concern about reduced durability due to weight reduction has been addressed by using fully machined chrome-molybdenum steel material with excellent thermal stability. >>Learn more

--------------------------

Reduces the moment of inertia and contributes to improved response.

The flywheel is a part that absorbs torque fluctuations that occur during the engine operating process and stabilizes rotation, and is attached to the rear end of the engine's crankshaft (or eccentric shaft in the case of RE). Weight (mass) is generally used as a performance indicator for lightweight flywheels for tuning, but does the mass distribution concentrate at the center of rotation? Is it on the periphery? The magnitude of the moment of inertia is the key to engine characteristics.
The moment of inertia is like a coefficient that determines the ease of rotation; the smaller the moment, the better the response, but disadvantages such as engine stalling, lack of torque at low rotations, and increased vibration. On the other hand, if it is too large, the rotation will be smooth but the response will deteriorate. Therefore, it is difficult to find a balance. For mass-produced cars, it is unavoidable that the moment of inertia is larger due to considerations for ease of handling and comfort, but if the focus is on drivers who want a sense of oneness with the car, there is room for improvement.
Our "Sports Flywheel" reduces the moment of inertia by 28 to 37% compared to mass production (for reciprocating engines). The specifications are designed to combine agile accelerator response and stress-free operability in sync with the sensibilities of drivers who enjoy driving on the street. The material is chromium molybdenum steel with excellent thermal stability. If possible, we recommend installing it together with a clutch line that increases the direct feeling when operating the clutch.
