In order to actively enjoy driving, it is important to maintain close communication with the car. When the driver senses input from the road and steers the car, the car's movement is corrected. Furthermore, the driver senses this movement and repeats the next steering operation, creating a closed loop that is agile and accurate. To achieve this, we have released a number of body reinforcement parts, and what we focused on was the rubber bushing that is installed in the moving parts of the suspension.
Rubber bushings used in mass-produced cars, even sports cars, must ensure comfort, so the hardness of the rubber must be set to be soft and vibration absorption must be prioritized. Therefore, when driving around winding roads, there is a momentary delay in reaction to driver input. The ND Roadster features double wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear, and there are over 30 bushings scattered throughout. It's easy to imagine that making this stiffer would make a big difference in maneuverability.
The key is the degree of stiffness. If you replace it with a racing car-like metal pillow ball or hard urethane, it will give you the ultimate in rigidity, but in exchange, it will generate vibration and operating noise due to aging, making it unsuitable for street use. On the other hand, if it is soft, the reaction will be slow.
Our suspension bush maintains the mass-produced shape and has increased rubber hardness to around 110-140%. While ensuring practicality, it suppresses the deflection of moving parts, creating solid handling that is better than that of a sports car but less than a racing car. The lineup consists of an upper mount that enhances the movement of the damper during minute strokes, and a lower arm that carries the load, and includes all movable parts of the suspension up to the upper arm.
